Santa Fe merchant Julius Gans is credited with introducing jackets, vests, and purses made from Chimayó blankets in the 1930s. These were then distributed to wider markets through companies and sold in stores such as the Fred Harvey Company shops. It is estimated that some 100 weavers were working in Chimayó in the 1930s.
